Jesus, our King and High Priest

“The LORD says to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.’” Psalm 110:1 (ESV)

Psalm 110 is one of the most quoted psalms in the New Testament, directly pointing to Jesus as the eternal King and High Priest. David, under divine inspiration, records a conversation between God the Father and God the Son. “The LORD says to my Lord…” offers a powerful glimpse into the mystery of the Trinity and the authority of Christ.

This psalm shows Jesus not only as King but also as the victorious, eternal Priest in the order of Melchizedek (v.4). Unlike human kings whose power diminishes and priests whose lives end, Christ rules forever and intercedes forever. His enemies will be defeated, not by human strength but by divine decree.

As believers, this gives us great confidence. Jesus reigns, even when the world seems chaotic. He is both sovereign over everything and our personal advocate. We do not face our struggles alone, nor do we plead our case in vain. He is seated at the right hand of the Father, and His victory is certain.

Jesus, thank You for being my King and my Priest. You sit in power, ruling with justice and interceding with mercy. When life feels uncertain and enemies surround me, remind me that You are on the throne, and nothing can overthrow Your plans. Strengthen my faith and help me walk confidently in Your eternal reign. I worship You today, not only for what You’ve done but also for who You are—my victorious, everlasting Lord. Amen.
