Psalm 110 opens with a remarkable oracle: “The Lord says to my Lord: ‘Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.’” This is not about David himself, but about the Messiah — Jesus Christ. God the Father places Him at His right hand, the place of highest authority. From there, Christ rules in the midst of His enemies, and nothing can stand against Him.
But Psalm 110 does more than show us Christ as King. In verse 4, the Lord swears an unbreakable oath: “You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.” Unlike the priests of Israel who offered sacrifices year after year, Jesus’ priesthood never ends. By His once-for-all sacrifice, He saves completely, and even now He intercedes for His people (Hebrews 7:25).
One day, the psalm says, this King-Priest will return as Judge, crushing every rival and setting all things right. Until then, we live under His reign — trusting His intercession, submitting to His authority, and waiting with hope.
Dear Church, the world may seem unstable, but Psalm 110 reminds us that Christ reigns now and forever. Let us bow before Him in joyful obedience.
