Pastor's Corner - 8/26

Someone once asked Jesus, “Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?” (Luke 13:23). It was an interesting theological question, but Jesus did not give the answer they expected. Instead, he made the question personal: “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door” (Luke 13:24).

Jesus warns us against assuming that being near him is the same as belonging to him. Some would say, “We ate and drank with you, and you taught in our streets” (Luke 13:26). They knew about Jesus and had been around Jesus, yet they had never truly trusted him.

That warning is especially important for those of us who have been around the church for a long time. Church attendance, Christian parents, Bible knowledge, and even ministry cannot save us. Our confidence must be in Christ alone.

Yet this passage is more than a warning. Jesus laments over Jerusalem and speaks of his desire to gather its people as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. The narrow door does not reveal a reluctant Savior. It reveals the only Savior.

Dear Church, do not presume upon God’s grace. Whether you have followed Jesus for many years or are still considering his invitation, look to Christ again today. Jesus is the door to salvation. Trust him today and follow him always.
