Pastor's Corner - 8/5

Alpha is coming to Goodwill Beacon, and we are excited to see what God will do. While we are recruiting volunteers to serve on the Alpha team, Alpha is not just for those who will be leading each week. It is a ministry for our entire church. Every one of us has a part to play through prayer, encouragement, hospitality, and most importantly, inviting others to come.

When Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, met Jesus, he immediately found his brother Simon and said, “We have found the Messiah” (John 1:41). Then he brought him to Jesus. Andrew did not have all the answers. He simply extended an invitation and trusted Jesus to do the work.

The same is true today. Most people are far more willing to accept an invitation than we often imagine. A simple conversation, a personal invitation, or a sincere offer to attend together may be the very thing God uses to draw someone to Christ. The Alpha team will facilitate the discussions, but the whole church participates in the mission.

Dear Church, begin praying now. Ask the Lord to place one or two people on your heart whom you can invite. Pray for them by name. Look for opportunities to share the invitation. Then leave the results in God's hands, trusting that he is still drawing people to himself through the gospel.
