“Where is your faith?” he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.” - Luke 8:25
Luke 8 shows us how quickly fear can take over. The disciples feared the storm. A man was overtaken by darkness. A woman suffered for years without relief. A father faced the loss of his child. Each situation feels different, but the root is the same. Fear rises when life feels out of control.
In every scene, Jesus steps in with authority. He calms the storm with a word. He restores a man no one else could help. He heals a woman who had been overlooked for years. He raises a child from death. Again and again, Jesus shows that nothing is beyond His power.
What stands out is not just what Jesus does, but what He calls for. He invites trust. He asks the disciples where their faith is. He tells Jairus not to fear, only believe. He honors the woman’s faith and calls her daughter. Fear does not disqualify us, but it must not lead us. Faith must.
Dear Church, when fear rises this week, bring it to Jesus and trust His authority over every part of your life.
