But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." -- 2 Corinthians 12:9

There are seasons when our prayers are simple and urgent. Lord, heal this. Lord, remove this. Lord, change this. And sometimes, like Paul, we find that the burden does not lift as quickly as we hoped. In 2 Corinthians 12, Paul tells us that he pleaded with the Lord three times to remove the thorn in his flesh. But instead of taking it away, the Lord gave him a promise: “My grace is sufficient for you.”

That does not mean the pain was small. It means Christ was greater.

God does not always answer by removing the weakness. Sometimes he answers by giving strength to endure it. Sometimes he answers by drawing us closer to Christ in the middle of it. Sometimes he shows his power not by changing our circumstances immediately, but by sustaining us faithfully within them.

This is hard for us, because we often want relief more than reliance. We want explanations more than daily grace. But the Lord knows what we need most. And what we need most is not always a life without weakness, but a deeper experience of Christ’s presence and power.

When we are weak, we are not abandoned. When we are burdened, we are not forgotten. Christ meets his people with grace that is enough for today.

Dear Church, do not lose heart in your weakness. Bring your burdens honestly to the Lord, keep praying, and rest in the promise that Christ’s grace will be enough for you today.
