Be still, and know that I am God. — Psalm 46:10a

These words are more than an invitation to rest, but are a command to trust. In a world that seems constantly shaking, Psalm 46 grounds us in the unshakable reality of God’s sovereignty. Nations rage, mountains fall, and waters roar, but God remains our refuge and strength, “an ever-present help in trouble” (46:1b)

Stillness is not passive, but it is an act of faith. When we stop striving to control outcomes, we declare that God is in control. When we quiet our anxious thoughts, we make room to hear His voice. When we cease our frantic doing, we rest in His being—our fortress and our peace.

The psalmist reminds us that God is exalted among the nations and over all the earth. His kingdom cannot be moved, and His people need not fear. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our stronghold.

Dear Church, let us be still, not because life is easy, but because God is mighty. Lay down your worries before the Lord. Trust Him in your storms. Let your calm confidence in His power be a witness to the world that our refuge is not in ourselves but in Him.
