The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” - Psalm 14:1a
Psalm 14 reminds us that foolishness is not about intellect but about the heart. The fool says in his heart, “no God,” not only with words but through the way life is lived. Many of us would never openly deny God, yet we can quietly live as practical atheists when our choices and reactions reveal that we are trusting in ourselves more than in Him. When we face problems, we might first look for solutions in our own strength rather than coming before God in prayer. When we measure success only by comfort or achievement, we forget that everything we have comes from His hand.
This psalm invites us to look honestly at our hearts. Where are we living as if God were not present? Where have we replaced dependence with self-reliance? True wisdom begins when we acknowledge that the Lord is our refuge and that apart from Him we can do nothing.
Dear Church, let us take time each day this week to read Psalm 14 slowly and prayerfully. Allow the Holy Spirit to work in you as you read, softening your heart, deepening your trust, and shaping your life to reflect your faith. Let every action and decision declare, “The Lord is my refuge.”
