Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him. -- Psalm 62:5
When life feels unstable, we often reach for something solid, such as success, relationships, money, or control. Yet David reminds us in today's Psalm, “Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken" (v1). Every other foundation eventually collapses, but God alone stands firm.
Psalm 62 invites us to stop striving and rest in the Lord. David does not ask for help here; instead, he preaches to his own heart and waits in silence for God alone. It is a quiet confidence that comes from knowing who God is, powerful enough to hold all things together and loving enough to hold us close. When we pour out our hearts to Him in prayer, we trade anxiety for peace.
The world tells us to do more, build more, and control more, but the gospel calls us to rest in Christ, our Rock. Jesus was shaken on the cross so that we could stand unshaken forever.
Dear Church, where are you tempted to place your trust? Is it God plus something else? Ask Him to draw you back to the steady peace of trusting in God alone.
