Pastor's Corner - 12/24

On Christmas Eve, we return to a familiar story, yet one that never loses its wonder. Luke reminds us that while emperors issued decrees and the world moved according to human authority, God was quietly at work fulfilling His promises. A census brought Joseph and Mary to Bethlehem, not by chance, but because God had promised that the Savior would come from the line of David.

There was no room prepared for them. No palace, no celebration, no outward sign of greatness. Mary gave birth to her son and laid Him in a manger. God chose humility as the way He would draw near to us. The Savior entered the world not with power, but with grace, making Himself accessible to all.

The first announcement of Jesus’ birth did not come to rulers, but to shepherds in the fields. They were ordinary and unnoticed, yet they heard the angels proclaim good news of great joy for all people. Fear gave way to joy as they learned that a Savior had been born, Christ the Lord, bringing peace not through force, but through God’s favor.

The shepherds went to Bethlehem and found everything just as they had been told. They spread the word and returned praising God. Mary, in contrast, treasured these things and pondered them in her heart. Together, they show us the right response to Christmas: quiet reflection and joyful praise.

On this Christmas Eve, we are reminded that God has come near. He entered our world in humility so that we might know His grace and peace. Because Christ has come, we can lay down our fear, receive His gift by faith, and rejoice in the peace He brings.
