Your ways, God, are holy. — Psalm 77:13a

Psalm 77 gives us a window into the heart of those who feel abandoned. Asaph begins with sleepless nights, stretching out his hands in prayer, but finding no comfort. Even the thought of God makes him groan, because it seems the Lord is silent. He asks the questions many of us are afraid to voice: Has God rejected me? Has His love come to an end? Has He forgotten to be merciful?

Yet in the middle of despair, Asaph makes a decision: “I will remember the deeds of the Lord” (v11). He chooses to look back, to meditate on God’s mighty acts of salvation, especially the Exodus, when God led His people through the sea. Though God was not seen, His saving power was sure.

For us, the ultimate act of redemption is the cross. When we question God's love for us, we should not look at our circumstances but at Christ, who was crucified and has risen. This is the anchor for our hope during times when God seems silent.

Dear Church, do not let despair be your final response. Pray, remember His works, fix your eyes on Jesus, and trust the God who still leads His church today.
