Pastor's Corner - 9/17

Psalm 96 begins with a call to “Sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth” (v. 1). Singing is more than a joyful activity. It is an act of worship, a response to who God is and what He has done. The psalm calls us not only to praise but also to proclaim. “Proclaim his salvation day after day. Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples” (vv. 2–3). Every time we lift our voices in praise, we are also bearing witness to the world that our God saves.

Psalm 96 reminds us why worship is so important in a broken world. While idols are man-made and essentially nothing, “the Lord made the heavens” (v. 5). While our lives may be filled with grief, uncertainty, or fear, Psalm 96 declares that “the Lord reigns” (v. 10). He rules with justice and faithfulness, and He is coming to make all things right.

Even creation joins in the chorus. The seas roar, the fields are jubilant, and the forests sing for joy. In the same way, we can rejoice.

Dear Church, lift up your voice. Proclaim His salvation day after day, and let your life be a song of worship to the Lord who reigns.
