Pastor's Corner - 3/4

When God gave Israel the command to keep the Sabbath, he connected it directly to their redemption. In Deuteronomy 5:15, Moses reminds them,
“Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the LORD your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm.”
The Sabbath was never meant to be just another rule to keep. It was a weekly reminder that Israel was no longer slaves. God had rescued them. Their lives were no longer defined by endless work or relentless demands.
That truth still speaks to us today.
If we do not practice the Sabbath, we will inevitably become slaves to something. Work can enslave us. Productivity can enslave us. The pressure to succeed, achieve, and keep up can quietly take hold of our hearts. Our culture celebrates busyness, but the Lord calls his people to rest.
Sabbath reminds us that God is the one who provides. He is the one who sustains. The world continues even when we stop working, because the Lord holds it together.
In Luke 6, Jesus declares that he is the Lord of the Sabbath. The one who redeems his people also gives them rest.
Dear Church, take time this week to remember God’s mercy. Step away from what enslaves you and rest in Christ.
