Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. — Psalm 100:4
In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation inviting the American people to set aside a day of thanksgiving and praise to our Father who dwells in heaven. He spoke of the blessings that often go unnoticed in times of difficulty and reminded the country that every good gift comes from God. His words still speak to us today. Gratitude is not rooted in our circumstances, but in the character and generosity of the Lord.
Psalm 100 gives us the posture of a thankful people. The psalmist calls us to enter God’s gates with thanksgiving and His courts with praise. We are invited to come before the Lord with gladness because the Lord is good. His steadfast love endures forever, and His faithfulness continues through all generations. When we remember who He is, gratitude begins to rise within us.
Dear Church, on this Thanksgiving Eve, let us pause and reflect on God’s kindness in our lives. Think about His provision that has met your needs, His mercy that has forgiven you, and His presence that has strengthened you. Let Psalm 100 guide your prayers, and let Lincoln’s reminder stir your heart to see the many ways God has been gracious. May your thanksgiving lead you to worship the God who never stops giving.
Happy Thanksgiving!
