Pastor's Corner - 12/31

As the year comes to an end, Ezekiel 19 invites us into sober reflection. This chapter is written as a lament, a funeral song for Israel’s leaders and for the nation itself. God calls His people to remember who they were meant to be. Israel is pictured as a lioness raising strong cubs, leaders formed with promise, yet each one is captured and carried away. The image then shifts to a flourishing vine, deeply rooted and full of fruit, only to be uprooted and left withered. What once held strength and hope now lies in loss.

Year’s end often feels this way. We remember hopes that once felt full of promise, as well as decisions that led to disappointment and consequences we could not escape. Ezekiel 19 reminds us that faithful reflection includes lament. God does not rush His people past grief. He invites us to bring it honestly before Him.

Yet lament is not the same as hopelessness. Even in this sorrowful song, God remains the covenant Lord who has not abandoned His people. This passage directs our eyes beyond failed leaders and broken vines to the One who would come in perfect faithfulness.

Dear Church, as we close this year, let us come honestly before the Lord. Let us grieve what is broken, confess where we have strayed, and trust ourselves to His mercy. The God who uproots is also the God who restores, and He is still at work among His people.
